主讲人简介

Xiao-Ming Chen is a professor at the School of Chemistry, Sun Yat-Sen University (SYSU). He completed his Bachelor's degree in July 1983 from SYSU, followed by a Master's degree in July 1986. In March 1992, he earned his Ph.D. from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He then moved to SYSU, and became a Professor in in January 1995. Prof. Chen was elected to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 2009 and The World Academy of Sciences for the Advancement of Science in Developing Countries (TWAS) in 2013. Additionally, he became an IUPAC Fellow in 2013. His accolades include the China Science and Technology Award for Young Scientists in 1996, the Distinguished Young Scientist Award from the Qiu Shi Science & Technologies Foundation in 1999, the Distinguished Teacher’s Award from the Baosteel Education Foundation in 2001, the China National Natural Science Prize (second class) in 2007, the TWAS Prize in Chemistry in 2012, the Science and Technology Achievement Award of Guangdong Province in 2017, the 34th Khwarizmi International Award from the Iranian Research Organization for Science and Technology in 2019, and the International Award of Japan Society of Coordination Chemistry (JSCC) in 2020. He Served for Academic Journals as Associate Editor, Guest Editor, Editorial Board Member, or Advisory Board Member, including Chinese Journal of Structural Chemistry, Chinese Journal of Inorganic Chemistry, Chinese Science Bulletin, European Journal of Inorganic Chemistry (Wiley), Chemical Communications (RSC), Crystal Growth & Design (ACS), etc. Prof. Chen's research interests lie in the design, synthesis, and crystal engineering of functional metal-organic/hybrid materials, including coordination polymers and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), and their applications such as adsorption/separation, catalysis, and electric/magnetic properties. Notably, his group was the first to discover several zinc imidazolates with permanent zeolitic MOF structures, including Zinc(II) 2-Methylimidazolate published in 2006 (MAF-4, also known as ZIF-8). This discovery predates the term "ZIFs" and has become one of the most well-known MOFs, cited in over 10,000 publications according to Web of Science.

讲座简介

This report will briefly introduce metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), their characteristics and functional applications. It will then review historical milestone research from a personal perspective, with a particular focus on the work of the 2025 Nobel Prize laureates in Chemistry. Following this, two representative classes of MOF materials—polycarboxylate-based and polyazole-based MOFs—will be briefly presented. Finally, it will discuss the insights provided by the Nobel laureates’ achievements into the questions: “What constitutes important scientific research?” and “How to conduct pioneering scientific research?”
